The Tower of Babel

The story of the Tower of Babel is a lesson that teaches us that all things are possible as long as we follow the desires of the LORD. We are nothing without the love of Jesus in our lives. We can never forget the greatness of the LORD.

Genesis 11:1-19

The whole earth spoke in one language and one speech after the flood of Noahís day. Noah and his family traveled to the plain in the land of Shinar and that is where they dwelt. This is close to where Iran is today.
These people were all of the same family coming from Noah and his sons. They began to have their own ideas and go their own ways. They decided they could unite all humanity to reach the heavens. They wanted to make a name for themselves instead of worshipping the LORD God who saved them from the flood.
They decided to make their own bricks and burn them so they had brick for stone, and slime for mortar. They were going to make their own city.
Once again the people were going after their desire and not the desire of the LORD. The people were gathering together to serve themselves. Doing what they wanted to do not what the LORD wanted them to do. They were worshiping their accomplishments and achievements not worshipping the LORD.
The LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men were building. How disappointing it must have been for the LORD to see that these people who He had saved from the flood were worshipping themselves and not Him.
The LORD saw that the people had all on language and they had joined together to build a tower to heaven. These people had made up their mind to take things in their own hands and do what they wanted to do. They did not care what the LORD wanted them to do
The LORD decided to confound or mix up their language so that they could not understand one anothers speech. The LORD scattered them abroad. The people were forced to stop building the city. And they had to find the other people who spoke the same language they did.

What Can This Story Teach Us?

We all know people who worship their own accomplishments and achievements. Thinking they are smarter and better than other people. Mark 10:27 reminds us what Jesus said; “With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”
It is important to remember something that Paul told us in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”This means everything we do is done because we get our strength through Jesus.
All things are possible as long as we follow the desires of the LORD. We are nothing without the love of Jesus in our lives. We can never forget the greatness of the LORD.
